Pattern
Waves is an Illusion pattern. A series of wavy lines are machined into the grip in a way that makes the pattern appear to change when viewed from different angles. The pattern goes to the edge and is machined using a 5 axis CNC mill.
The grip looks smooth and feel good in your hand. It does not provide the grip that Ripples does.
Back
The back of every S.O.I. grip is milled flat except for a machined recess that is finished in a spiral. The recess reduces the weight by about 30 percent. There is also a counterbore for the mainspring housing pin. The counterbore allows the grip to be full profile with no notches.
Material
Timascus is the premium grip material. It is composed of multiple titanium alloys of forge welded together. After forging the billet is manipulated to develop the pattern. Then all traces of forging are machined off and the billet is complete. At this point the billet can be machined into a grip.
There are two types of Timascus. White Timascus is titanium alloys. Black Timascus has zirconium added to the mix of titanium alloys.
Timascus is time consuming and expensive to make. It is challenging to machine. When finished it is a unique material with a distinctive look.
Timascus is made here at S.O.I. Gear.
Note
We continually improve our processes and products. Improvements are incorporated as quickly as possible. The latest models of grips may not match older models.
